Safety

Safety Aboard

Safety is the cornerstone of our mission at Challenged Sailors San Diego. As stewards of serving those living with disabilities, and as advocates for marine community engagement, we are committed to assuring that every adaptive sailor, volunteer and visitor to our docks experiences the joy of sailing in a safe environment. From rigorous training of all our volunteers to maintaining our sailboats and equipment, safety informs every decision we make.

Everyone comes to Challenged Sailors San Diego with a unique disability. We have over a decade of safety experience and have served thousands of individual safety situations. Safety is everywhere in our operation: from navigating our ramp, to moving along a narrow dock, to being transported from wheelchairs into boats, to using specialized communication while underway that together or collectively cultivates confidence, camaraderie and a sense of belonging.

We prioritize a culture of preventative safety vigilance. We comply with US Coast Guard federal requirements for recreational boats, adhere to US Sailing safety equipment requirements and operate within all California maritime regulations.

Together, we set sail with assurance that safety always comes first.
