Sailing Request Form

Challenged Sailors San Diego has a fleet of eight Martin 16 sailboats specifically designed for adaptive sailing.

We can rig the boat with a special Power Assist unit to enable both steering and trimming of the sails via a small electric joystick (similar to those often used on power wheelchairs) or a Sip and Puff mouthpiece.

Our facilities are accessible and equipped with a lift for transferring sailors from wheelchairs into the boat.

We serve participants of all ages. Most disabilities can be accommodated, including: Spinal Cord Injury, Amputation, Traumatic Brain Injury, Vision Impairment or Blindness, Hearing Impairment or Deafness, PTSD, Muscular Dystrophy, Multiple Sclerosis, Cerebral Palsy, Cognitive Impairment, Stroke, ALS.  All experience levels (from none to advanced) are welcome.

Our primary sailing days are Fridays and Saturdays at 12 noon, weather permitting, but we can schedule another day on request if sufficient volunteers are available. In either case, send an email to scheduler@challengedsailors.org or fill out the form on this page at least five days in advance so we can line up companion sailors and make sure the necessary equipment is available.

You will need to download, fill out, sign and send this Information Form and Waiver to scheduler@challengedsailors.org at least a week before your first sail.

See this Resources page for valuable information about weather, navigation, the Martin 16, safety, racing, transportation options, and more.
