Challenged Sailors San Diego

Kyle C. McArthur Memorial Regatta

hosted by Coronado Yacht Club

April 18 & 19 will be the inaugural Kyle C. McArthur Memorial Regatta hosted by Coronado Yacht Club.

LTJG Kyle C. McArthur was born and raised in Coronado, CA.  An avid sailor and all-around athlete, he was named one of the top senior athletes at Coronado High School by the Coronado Rotary Club.  He attended the United States Naval Academy where he was a member of the sailing and lacrosse teams.  After graduating from the Naval Academy, McArthur trained as a Naval Aviator and carrier qualified in a T-45 on the USS George W. Bush.  A short time later, on June 16, 2013, he died as a result of an automobile accident.

This regatta, honoring Kyle's memory, will start from near Harbor Island at noon on Saturday, April 18, and finish at the Coronado Yacht Club in Glorietta Bay.  A burger burn at the YC is planned.  Raffle tickets and silent auction bids can be made then or Sunday morning.

The next day, April 19, racers will return to Coronado YC for the start of race two at 1:00pm from Glorietta Bay to the finish line near Harbor Island. Following the completion of the race on Sunday there will be a reception and awards presentation at the Sunroad Marina pavilion.  Raffle and silent auction winners will also be announced.

We need of a number of volunteers to make this a successful event, both on the days of the regatta and before.

Among our volunteer needs are companion sailors, dock support, help with the raffle & silent auction, party & reception, fund raising, photography, transporting sailors from one end of course to the other and more.

Send an email to Scheduler@challengedsailors.org if you are able to help in any of these areas.
